What Is R-32?
R-32 is the most balanced refrigerant in terms of environmental impact, energy efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Heat Transfer Mechanisms & Environmental Impact
Refrigerant is the medium that carries heat. An air conditioner transfers heat by circulating refrigerant between the indoor and outdoor units.
Although there are various types of refrigerants, R-32 is a well-balanced refrigerant that is currently attracting attention.
Because R-32 transfers heat efficiently, it can reduce electricity consumption by about 10% compared to air conditioners using R-22 refrigerant.
In addition, compared to widely used refrigerants such as R-22 and R-410A, R-32 has a global warming potential (GWP) one-third lower and stands out for its low environmental impact.

As the only manufacturer that develops and produces both air conditioners and refrigerants, Daikin launched the world's first residential air conditioner using R-32.
Global Refrigerant Trends
Various refrigerants have been used in air conditioners to date. Regulations have become increasingly strict due to greater consideration for the global environment following the Montreal Protocol in 1987 and the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, resulting in a shift to refrigerants with lower environmental impact.
Although the mainstream refrigerant R-410A has an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0, its global warming potential (GWP) remains an issue.
While R-32 also has an ozone depletion potential of 0, the refrigerant has only about 1/3 the GWP of R-410A. As a result, research into R-32 has increased as a promising refrigerant with a smaller environmental impact.
However, because R-32 is a very difficult refrigerant to handle, its use was not practical until now. Daikin became the first company in the world to successfully apply R-32 to air conditioners, leveraging its expertise as the only manufacturer that develops and produces both air conditioners and refrigerants.

Cooperation with governments and international organizations has expanded technical assistance for developing countries to every region, with the aim of broadening the use of R-32 refrigerant worldwide.
Aiming for widespread use around the world, Daikin not only produces and sells R-32 but also provides technical assistance in developing countries in cooperation with governments and international organizations.
In India, verification tests were conducted for R-32 inverter air conditioners. Technical skill levels were also raised through training on the proper handling of R-32. As a result, Daikin has received requests from various governments, including those of Thailand and Malaysia, and the company has begun targeting local manufacturers for technical assistance in converting to R-32.
Efforts such as those mentioned above have earned Daikin high recognition and numerous international awards.
