Complete AC Buying Guide

From PK capacity, Inverter technology, and installation placement to maintenance tips - everything you need to know before and after buying a Daikin AC.

Choosing AC Capacity

Air conditioner capacity is measured in PK (Paard Kracht) or BTU/h. Choose the right one so your AC is neither underpowered nor wasteful.

Small

½ – ¾ PK

Ideal for rooms of ≤ 12 m²

  • Children's bedroom
  • Boarding room
  • Small workspace
Most Common

Optimal

1 – 1½ PK

Ideal for rooms of 12 – 25 m²

  • Standard bedroom
  • Small living room
  • Private office

Extra

2 PK and above

Ideal for rooms of > 25 m²

  • Large living room
  • Family room
  • Meeting room

Choosing an AC Type

The key differences between Inverter and Non-Inverter determine your electricity bills and comfort over the long term.

Inverter AC

Inverter technology varies the compressor speed according to the room's temperature needs. The compressor doesn't cycle on and off, so it uses less energy, runs more quietly, and keeps temperatures more stable.

Saves 30–60% on electricity compared to Non-Inverter
Room temperature stays stable without fluctuation
Compressor runs continuously - no on-off cycling, so it lasts longer

Daikin recommendation: choose Inverter if the AC is used more than 6 hours a day.

Proper AC Installation

Proper installation ensures optimal performance, keeps your warranty valid, and provides long-term safety.

Indoor Unit Placement

Mount high on the wall, at least 15–20 cm from the ceiling. Avoid placing it directly above doors/windows so the cool air doesn't escape immediately.

Outdoor Unit Air Circulation

Requires at least 30 cm of clearance on all sides for air circulation. Do not place it in an enclosed area or in continuous direct sunlight.

Refrigerant Pipe Length

The ideal pipe length is 3–5 meters. The longer the pipe, the lower the efficiency. Pipes must not be kinked or sharply bent.

Drainage & Water Discharge

The condensate hose must slope downward at a minimum gradient of 1:50 so water doesn't pool and drip.

Installation by Certified Technicians

Always use a Daikin certified technician. Self-installation or installation by unauthorized parties may void the warranty.

Energy-Saving Usage Tips

The right small habits can cut your electricity bill without sacrificing comfort.

Set the Temperature to 24–25°C

Every 1°C drop in temperature below 24°C can increase electricity consumption by 6–8%. 24–25°C is the optimal point for comfort and efficiency.

Save 6–8% per °C

Use the Timer

Use the timer feature to switch the AC off automatically after you fall asleep (e.g., after 3–4 hours). This reduces the overnight power load.

Lower nighttime bills

Use Dry Mode

Dry (Dehum) mode lowers humidity without overcooling - ideal during the rainy season for optimal comfort with lower power consumption.

Keep the Room Closed While the AC Is On

Gaps around doors/windows let cool air leak out. A tightly sealed room lets the AC work more efficiently and reach the target temperature faster.
