To support the government in achieving the 2060 carbon neutrality target, DAIKIN organized an event titled “DAIKIN Strategic Investment to Support Indonesia's Carbon Neutrality Goals 2060.” The event also coincided with the inauguration of DAIKIN’s new headquarters, designed with a “green and energy-efficient” concept, on September 6, 2023, in Jakarta.
Jakarta, September 6, 2023 – PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia continues to strengthen its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint through the global strategy “DAIKIN Environmental Vision 2050.” At the national level, the Indonesian government encourages all industrial players to actively support the country’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. One of DAIKIN’s commitments in Indonesia is demonstrated through several strategic investments, ranging from manufacturing products with eco-friendly technologies and innovations, building factories, and developing a headquarters area based on the “green and energy-efficient” concept.
Attending the “DAIKIN Strategic Investment to Support Indonesia's Carbon Neutrality Goals 2060” agenda on September 6, Iwan Suryana, Deputy Minister for Climate Development and Investment at the Ministry of Investment/National Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), expressed his appreciation for DAIKIN’s tangible actions in supporting Indonesia’s 2060 carbon neutrality target. “DAIKIN’s presence in Indonesia for over 50 years has contributed significant investments to the country across various sectors. Today, I see how DAIKIN’s products, factory expansion plans, and office areas are meticulously designed, reflecting energy-saving technologies, care for the health of occupants, and undoubtedly positive long-term impacts on the environment. I hope other business leaders can take DAIKIN as a good example where sustainable business and development can run hand in hand,” he stated.
President Director of PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia, Shinji Miyata, stated that since 1980, DAIKIN has been innovating to provide eco-friendly AC products featuring inverter technology. “DAIKIN is a pioneer in adopting the environmentally proven R32 refrigerant. To date, our inverter products remain the most sought-after, even reaching one million units sold in 2022,” he shared.
Shinji Miyata explained that DAIKIN’s strategic investments for AC product development focus on at least three key aspects. First, AC units equipped with inverter technology and R32 refrigerant enable higher electrical efficiency and lower Global Warming Potential (GWP). Second, the integration of the Global Platform (GPF) technology allows built-in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to learn usage patterns within a building or location when connected to DAIKIN AC units, processing the data to automatically reduce electricity costs. Third, DAIKIN will develop an application to track the movement and usage of its own refrigerant cylinders, helping to minimize its global carbon footprint.
Beyond focusing on product development, DAIKIN is also promoting the drive toward carbon neutrality in the construction of its Cikarang factory. Director of PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia & PT Daikin Industries Indonesia, Budi Mulia, explained that this 20-hectare facility will adopt the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). “This will certainly enhance our workforce’s expertise in future fully digital manufacturing know-how. The factory will exclusively produce energy-saving inverter AC units using the more eco-friendly R32 refrigerant,” said Budi Mulia.
Regarding the investment value, Budi Mulia noted that DAIKIN will deploy funds in phases. “We will execute two phases, with Factory 1 valued at IDR 3.3 trillion set to commence operations by the end of 2024. The spirit of continuously implementing a sustainable business vision was also a key factor in DAIKIN Indonesia’s decision to select its new office location. Our office building holds the Green Mark Platinum certification, meaning it saves up to 30% in energy consumption and features excellent natural ventilation. Specifically within the office area, we have added a live showroom, a control room, and modern DAIKIN-style air conditioning installations that can be directly demonstrated to our clients. Both DAIKIN consumers and the Indonesian government hold high expectations for us, so we must uphold this trust by delivering the best possible performance,” clarified Budi Mulia.
