Founded in 1924, Daikin is a renowned Japanese manufacturer specializing in advanced air conditioning solutions. Our core expertise lies in the HVAC sector, and we are proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia to develop refrigeration and air conditioning engineering competencies across vocational high schools (SMK) nationwide.
Daikin’s journey in Indonesia began in 1970 through a local distributor. In 2012, Daikin Japan opted for direct market involvement, leading to the establishment of PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia in April. By the end of 2018, our network expanded to 13 regional branches and over 1,100 authorized dealers nationwide, supported by a workforce of more than 650 professionals and generating annual sales exceeding IDR 3.5 trillion.
Indonesia ranks among the fastest-growing economies in ASEAN and is projected to become the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2045. Despite this growth, the current air conditioning market penetration remains below 25%, leaving a substantial 75% opportunity for manufacturers, distributors, technicians, and installers. Given these factors, the potential for HVAC market expansion in Indonesia is immense.
Unlike standard home appliances that can be purchased at retail stores, delivered, plugged in, and used immediately, air conditioning systems require professional installation. Furthermore, as Indonesia’s commercial real estate sector expands—encompassing offices, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, shopping centers, and more—Daikin continues to introduce specialized HVAC solutions tailored for these demanding environments. Consequently, technicians must undergo continuous upskilling to properly install and maintain these advanced commercial systems.
We recognize that installation challenges extend beyond Daikin to encompass the entire HVAC manufacturing sector in Indonesia. These hurdles stem not only from a shortage of skilled labor but also from inconsistent workmanship standards. Many technicians currently rely solely on on-the-job experience rather than receiving structured, formal training from accredited educational institutions.
Addressing this gap is a core mission for Daikin. Since 2013, we have actively conducted extensive training programs for field technicians. Building on this commitment, we recently inaugurated our first National Training Center in North Jakarta. Spanning over 2,000 square meters, the facility features three theory classrooms, three hands-on laboratories covering diverse HVAC product lines—from residential units to complex commercial systems—and a dedicated welding workshop. Recognized as an official competency assessment center by the Professional Certification Institute for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (LSP-TPTU), it houses the region’s most comprehensive HVAC training infrastructure. Since its launch in July 2018, the center has successfully certified over 10,000 participants.
This year, we are expanding our initiative into the vocational education sector, recognizing that SMKs are the foundation of Indonesia’s future workforce. Through strategic collaboration with the Ministry and vocational educators, we aim to equip the next generation of technicians with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to confidently and professionally handle a wide range of modern HVAC systems in real-world applications.
