PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia conducted a visit and delivered a guest lecture at the University of North Sumatra in Medan today (December 16). Under the "Daikin Goes To Campus" program, the Japanese company renowned as an air conditioning solution specialist introduced the intricacies of HVAC solutions and various refrigeration innovations aimed at enhancing indoor air quality.
Held at Building J20, Mechanical Engineering Floor, Faculty of Engineering, USU, the event was attended by nearly one hundred students, predominantly from the university's Mechanical Engineering department. Alongside the Daikin branch manager for Sumatra, several industry experts were invited as speakers for this special lecture session.
“The lecture session, which combines knowledge about the air conditioning solution device industry and the career opportunities within it, is designed to inspire students, hopefully making them better prepared when entering the workforce,” said Charly Widjaja, Head of Daikin Medan Branch. He further emphasized that this specialized lecture aims to motivate students to enhance their capabilities as refrigeration professionals upon graduation.
"Daikin Goes To Campus" is part of a series of initiatives by Daikin to contribute more effectively to Indonesian society. Focused on education, the program runs simultaneously throughout the year across various higher education institutions nationwide.
Alongside sharing insights into the air conditioning solution industry, where Daikin has been a global specialist for nearly a century, the program also introduces various career pathways within the HVAC sector, including opportunities to build a career directly with Daikin.
Detailed topics covered during the session included the evolution of air conditioning devices for both residential and commercial buildings. Discussions ranged from the fundamentals of air conditioners and an introduction to the eco-friendly R32 refrigerant, which boasts a zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), to Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) technology, recognized as the latest advancement for commercial building climate control. Interactive Q&A segments were integrated throughout the lecture, allowing students to ask questions, share feedback, and discuss the presented materials.
Regarding the "Daikin Goes To Campus" program, Charly noted that this marks its inaugural rollout in North Sumatra. Looking ahead, he stated that similar events will be held at other universities across Aceh and North Sumatra. “Driven by Daikin’s commitment to contributing to the development of Indonesian society, we will expand the "Daikin Goes To Campus" initiative throughout North Sumatra, alongside our other educational and community-focused programs in the region,” concluded Charly.
