PT. Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia (DAIKIN) officially announced the launch of the DAIKIN Proshop Designer Awards 2024 today (May 17). Embracing the theme “EXPRESSION”, this annual competition for architecture and interior design professionals challenges participants to express their vision of an ideal living space. Open to both industry professionals and students, registration runs from May 18 to August 31, 2024.
“Beyond the challenge itself, we intend this prestigious competition to be a platform where ideas for an ideal living space can flourish, balancing aesthetic design with effective air conditioning. It aims to deliver comfort while actively supporting the health and well-being of its occupants,” said Shinji Miyata, President Director of PT. Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia.
As an architecture and interior design competition, the DAIKIN Proshop Designer Award made its debut in 2020, coinciding with DAIKIN’s 50th anniversary celebration in Indonesia. The initiative was born from the need to provide a dedicated platform for architecture and interior design practitioners to share their visions of an ideal home. Going beyond mere aesthetics, it places equal emphasis on HVAC systems to ensure comfort and health for everyone who occupies the space.
This philosophy aligns perfectly with the DAIKIN Home Central Air Conditioning, the flagship product featured in the DAIKIN Proshop lineup. As part of DAIKIN’s premium AC series, it combines sleek Indoor Unit designs with practical installation and maintenance requirements. Its unique capability allows multiple Indoor Units to be operated seamlessly from a single Outdoor Unit.
Comfort enhancements also include advanced multi-layer filtration that eliminates harmful airborne particles, alongside precise humidity control capabilities. “By combining DAIKIN’s technological support with the participants’ creative works under this shared spirit, we hope to inspire and accelerate the development of innovative approaches to creating ideal living spaces across Indonesia,” added Shinji Miyata.
Further underscoring the prestige of the DAIKIN Proshop Designer Awards 2024, two major Indonesian organizations representing architecture and interior design professionals have provided active support. These are the Jakarta Chapter of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) and the DKI Jakarta Chapter of the Indonesian Interior Designers Association (HDII).
This support extends to the judging panel, where representatives from both associations will serve as judges. Renowned architect Tan Tik Lam and acclaimed interior designer Alex Bayusaputro will sit alongside DAIKIN representatives. Indonesian celebrity Daniel Mananta will also join the distinguished judging panel.
As an annual event, DAIKIN continues to introduce updates that have become tradition at each edition of the DAIKIN Proshop Designer Awards. Maintaining the traditional division between executed and conceptual works for both architecture and interior design practitioners, this year features seven distinct competition categories. These include applications based on space usage, specifically residential housing and commercial buildings for Food & Beverage (F&B) businesses.
For the conceptual design category, participants are challenged to showcase their creativity by designing either a residence or an F&B commercial space within a 1,000-square-meter plot. “This offers a significant opportunity for every participant to push boundaries and express their vision of an ideal space through the collaboration of aesthetic design and DAIKIN’s air conditioning technology,” concluded Shinji Miyata.
As part of the event schedule, the judging phase for the DAIKIN Proshop Designer Awards 2024 will take place in late October. The culmination of the event, the awards ceremony, is set for November 28.
