Culminating this year's annual competition for residential designs featuring premium air conditioning and aesthetic appeal, the Daikin Designer Award 2022 concluded today in Jakarta on October 28, 2022, with the announcement of all winners. Ten winners were selected across three main categories from over 300 submissions received since the launch on May 14.
"The high number of participants in this specialized competition reflects Daikin's success in promoting the importance of quality air conditioning in modern homes, alongside attention to aesthetic elements," said Ching Khim Huat, President Director of PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia. He added that this also signals growing public awareness and demand for better indoor air quality in residential architecture.
As an annual initiative by PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia, the Daikin Designer Award aligns with the company's mission to promote air conditioning designs that prioritize both indoor air quality and aesthetic integration. This can be effectively achieved through Daikin's centralized air conditioning solutions, specifically the Home Central technology.
Under this year's theme, "Technology For Your Imagination," the competition expanded beyond completed residential projects to include a conceptual design category. "This aligns perfectly with Daikin's vision for this event. Beyond recognizing finished works, the conceptual design category serves to encourage support for homes equipped with premium air conditioning systems that do not compromise on aesthetic appeal," Ching Khim Huat explained.
To further promote these residential air conditioning solutions, the event was supported by the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) DKI Jakarta Chapter and the Indonesian Interior Designers Association (HDII) DKI Jakarta Chapter, alongside strategic partners Bumi Parama Wisesa and Magran Living.
Regarding the 2022 award winners, the first prize in the completed residential category went to Cowema Studio. Their two-story residence blends modern classic style with strong colonial architectural influences, while prioritizing natural lighting.
To ensure optimal comfort throughout the space, the eight-year-old architecture firm installed a Daikin Super Multi NX system. This setup includes four outdoor units connected to five Ceiling Mounted Duct indoor units with grilles, plus four wall-mounted indoor units.
Meanwhile, second and third place in this category were awarded to Pranala Associaties, known for its emphasis on lighting design, and Studiork Design, which presented a modern minimalist residential concept.
In the conceptual architecture category, PT Sysu Desain Arsitektura took home the top prize after captivating the judges with a design that seamlessly integrates geometric elements and sustainability principles.
To maintain superior air quality in this residential project, PT Sysu Desain Arsitektura utilized the Daikin VRV Home Series lineup. For the bedrooms, they implemented the Ceiling 3D Moisture Control Intelligent unit. This choice was driven by the unit's concealed design, which blends seamlessly with the walls, and its advanced humidity control capabilities.
For moisture-sensitive areas like the kitchen and bathrooms, the Durability Moisture Control Kitchen Ceiling Mounted Cassette was selected to maintain optimal air quality and manage humidity effectively.
Addressing pollution and heat concerns in this Pantai Indah Kapuk building design, the architects also incorporated the Daikin Fresh Air unit, engineered to enhance ventilation with cleaner, fresher circulating air.
AER Design Studio, based in Surabaya, secured second place in this category. In the conceptual interior design category, Anima Interior won first place with a concept focused on comfortable spaces featuring timeless neutral color palettes. To support comfort while preserving the overall aesthetic, they opted for the VRV Home Series paired with Ceiling Mounted Duct indoor units integrated into Trox boxes.
This installation allows cool air supply while maintaining design integrity, as the visible air outlets are slim 4 cm black lines that blend seamlessly with the overall decor. Additionally, the placement of Ceiling Mounted Duct units in the living room, dining area, and pantry is cleverly concealed using a custom coffered ceiling design that masks the vent locations.
Lifetime Design claimed second place in the interior category, introducing a modern classic ambiance that encourages greater family interaction and shared growth. Additionally, a special "Kimberly’s Choice" award was presented for both conceptual categories. Named after Indonesian celebrity Kimberly Ryder, who also served as a judge for the Daikin Designer Award 2022, this honor recognizes the work that best resonated with her personal taste. ConArch Studio won the award for conceptual architecture, while Anima Interior took it for conceptual interior design.
In addition to cash prizes totaling hundreds of millions of rupiah, the winning projects will be featured across various partner media outlets. "This recognition is part of our commitment to promoting, within the architecture and interior design communities as well as the general public, the vision of homes that prioritize comfortable, elegant air conditioning solutions," concluded Ching Khim Huat.
