Culminating this year’s annual competition dedicated to residential designs that prioritize quality HVAC and aesthetic appeal, the Daikin Designer Award 2022 announced its full list of winners today in Jakarta, October 28, 2022. Out of more than 300 submissions received since the launch on May 14, ten winners were selected across three main categories.

“The high number of participants in this specialized competition reflects Daikin’s success in promoting the importance of quality HVAC in modern homes, alongside attention to aesthetic elements,” stated Ching Khim Huat, President Director of PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia. He added that this also signals growing public awareness and demand for better indoor air quality in residential architecture.

As an annual event by PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia, the Daikin Designer Award is part of the company’s initiative to promote HVAC designs that balance indoor air quality with aesthetic considerations. This can be effectively achieved through the use of the Daikin Home Central solution, which leverages Daikin’s centralized air conditioning technology.

Under this year’s theme, Technology For Your Imagination, the competition featured categories for both completed residential projects and conceptual designs. “This aligns with the spirit Daikin brings to this event. Beyond recognizing finished works, the conceptual design category serves to promote support for homes that deliver quality HVAC while maintaining strong aesthetic value,” Ching Khim Huat reiterated.

In line with efforts to promote residential HVAC solutions, and with the support of the Jakarta Chapter of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) and the Jakarta Chapter of the Indonesian Interior Designers Association (HDII), the event was co-organized with Bumi Parama Wisesa and Magran Living.

Regarding the 2022 award winners, in the completed residential application category, Cowema Studio took first place. Their two-story home blends modern classic style with strong colonial architectural nuances, prioritizing natural lighting.

To ensure comprehensive climate comfort for its occupants, this eight-year-experienced architectural firm implemented the Daikin Super Multi NX system, featuring 4 outdoor units connected to 5 Ceiling Mounted Duct indoor units with grilles, plus 4 wall-mounted indoor units.

Meanwhile, second and third place in this category went to Pranala Associates, known for its emphasis on lighting elements, and Studiork Design, which presented a modern minimalist residential concept.

In the architectural conceptual category, PT Sysu Desain Arsitektura secured first place after capturing the judges' attention with a design that seamlessly integrates geometric elements and sustainability.

To support optimal HVAC performance in this residence, PT Sysu Desain Arsitektura utilized the Daikin VRV Home Series lineup. Specifically, the bedrooms feature the Ceiling 3D Moisture Control Intelligent unit. This choice was made due to its concealed form, which blends seamlessly with the walls, and its advanced humidity control capabilities.

For the kitchen and bathroom areas, which require special attention regarding humidity and moisture, the Durability Moisture Control Kitchen Ceiling Mounted Cassette was selected to maintain optimal air quality in these spaces.

Addressing pollution and heat concerns in this building design located in the Pantai Indah Kapuk area, the designers at PT Sysu Desain Arsitektura also incorporated the Daikin Fresh Air unit, engineered to enhance ventilation with cleaner, fresher air circulation.

Meanwhile, Surabaya-based AER Design Studio took second place in this category. In the interior designer conceptual category, Anima Interior won first place with a comfortable space design concept featuring timeless neutral color palettes. To support comfort while preserving the overall aesthetic, the VRV Home Series paired with Indoor Ceiling Mounted Duct units installed within TROX boxes was selected.

This installation allows cool air supply into the rooms while maintaining design elegance, as the visible air ducts appear only as slim 4 cm black lines that blend seamlessly with the overall design elements. Additionally, the placement of Indoor Ceiling Mounted Duct units in the living room, dining area, and pantry is cleverly concealed using a custom ceiling design with a square grid pattern to mask the air outlet points.

Lifetime Design secured second place, bringing a modern classic ambiance to the overall design while fostering greater family interaction and shared growth opportunities. Special recognition awards, including the "Kimberly’s Choice," were also presented for both conceptual categories. Named after Indonesian celebrity Kimberly Ryder—who also served as a judge for the Daikin Designer Award 2022—this award honors the project she personally favored. In the architectural conceptual category, ConArch Studio won the Kimberly’s Choice, while Anima Interior claimed it in the interior design conceptual category.

In addition to cash prizes totaling hundreds of millions of rupiah, the winning projects will be featured across various media partners involved in the event. “This initiative is part of our appreciation effort, as well as a promotion to the architecture community, interior designers, and the general public about envisioning homes that prioritize comfortable HVAC systems while maintaining an elegant appearance,” concluded Ching Khim Huat.
