Daikin Industries, Ltd. has once again been recognized for its transparency and proactive efforts in climate change mitigation. This acknowledgment comes from the Japanese air conditioning specialist’s re-entry into the “A” rating issued by the global non-profit organization, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that, besides securing the rating for the second consecutive year, it also positions Daikin as the only air conditioning and refrigeration equipment manufacturer to make the “A” list—the highest tier—recognized for leading performance in environmental transparency, climate change action, deforestation, and water security.
Founded in the UK in 2000, CDP is a non-profit organization that encourages companies and governments to disclose information on environmental issues. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, safeguarding water resources, and protecting forests.
By collecting, analyzing, and evaluating environmental data from global corporations and local governments worldwide, CDP annually publishes rankings based on each company’s initiatives and performance in addressing climate change, culminating in the “Climate Change A List.” For this fiscal year, CDP evaluated 15,000 companies and selected the top 283 global performers, including 74 Japanese firms.
Given its significant influence, the global economy regards CDP as the gold standard for environmental reporting, providing the most comprehensive data on corporate and governmental actions.
As a global leader in the AC and cooling products industry, Daikin has positioned its core business around leveraging technologies that minimize environmental impact while enhancing human health and productivity. At the same time, Daikin recognizes that the widespread adoption of air conditioning systems increases electricity consumption, which can contribute to global warming.
Driven by this awareness, Daikin has established its “Environmental Vision 2050,” aiming to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions from its business operations by 2050. To realize this goal, the company has formalized its commitments in the “Challenges Toward Carbon Neutrality” document, which serves as the growth strategy theme within its Fusion 25 strategic management plan through fiscal year 2025.
Beyond various initiatives implemented across production, development, and the enhancement of eco-friendly products, Daikin is also actively engaged throughout its entire business value chain, including refrigerant recovery and recycling systems.
This prestigious recognition from the CDP “A” list will serve as a driving force for Daikin to continue delivering comfortable indoor environments worldwide while contributing to the transition toward a decarbonized society.
