Held for the first time at SMK Negeri 29 Jakarta on April 21, PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia (Daikin) organized an Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (OHS&E) training program for vocational high school students. A key foundation for this initiative was equipping students with essential knowledge on proper refrigerant handling procedures.
Insufficient knowledge or negligence of established procedures when handling refrigerants can lead to workplace accidents, including potential unit fires that pose even greater risks. “Raising awareness of these risks and establishing proper handling and safety protocols for refrigerants are exactly what we aim to achieve through this training, which will be rolled out simultaneously across various vocational schools,” stated Adikusumo Rustam, Training Manager at PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia.
To complement their understanding of safe refrigerant handling procedures, the 70 participating students were also introduced to refrigerant recovery during the training session. This green initiative prevents refrigerants from being released into the atmosphere, where they could contribute to climate change.
Through refrigerant recovery, Daikin implements specialized procedures to collect used refrigerant typically extracted during AC unit replacements. Furthermore, through collaborations with third-party partners, the collected refrigerant can be processed and reclaimed into ready-to-use refrigerant, ensuring a circular and sustainable approach.
“This training represents Daikin’s concrete efforts to strengthen workplace safety awareness while simultaneously minimizing environmental impact. Through this program, we hope to reach more vocational students who will become Indonesia’s next generation of HVAC experts.”
