PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia (DAIKIN) is once again hosting the DAIKIN Proshop Designer Awards. Marking its third edition, this year’s competition is held under the theme RE:IMAGINE. “This theme perfectly captures the spirit of the event. It aims to foster architectural and interior design works born from reimagining how air conditioning comfort and overall interior decor can seamlessly unite into a cohesive spatial aesthetic,” stated Ching Khim Huat, President Director of PT Daikin Airconditioning Indonesia.
With registration opening on June 1, DAIKIN has implemented several strategic expansions. Notably, participant eligibility has been broadened to include student entries, and a new category for commercial Food & Beverage (F&B) architecture has been added, moving beyond the previous residential focus.
To maintain its status as a prestigious annual platform for the architecture and interior design communities, DAIKIN collaborates with major industry associations: the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI) and the Indonesian Interior Designers Association (HDII) Jakarta. Adding further prestige to the event, renowned figures from both fields have been appointed to the jury panel alongside DAIKIN’s own evaluators.
As a flagship annual initiative, the DAIKIN Designer Award was originally conceived to provide a platform where architecture and interior design professionals can share a unified vision of the ideal living space. It emphasizes not only aesthetic appeal but also integrates comprehensive air conditioning solutions that enhance comfort and health, harmonizing seamlessly with the room’s overall interior decor.
Widely recognized as a global air conditioning specialist with nearly a century of experience, DAIKIN has developed specialized technologies and innovations to support this vision of the ideal home. This is exemplified by the DAIKIN Home Central AC series, which simplifies piping installation by allowing a single Outdoor Unit to connect simultaneously to multiple Indoor Units, tailored to their cooling capacity requirements.
Unlike Single-Split AC systems, DAIKIN Home Central offers a diverse range of Indoor Unit designs. These configurations are intentionally crafted to blend seamlessly with various room types, adding an elegant touch to each interior space. For user health protection, the system maintains optimal humidity levels and eliminates airborne harmful particles through advanced multi-layer filtration.
DAIKIN’s readiness as a technology provider is expected to foster deeper collaboration with architecture and interior design professionals, further realizing Indonesia’s vision for ideal homes that prioritize comfortable, healthy indoor air quality without compromising aesthetic integrity. “The continuous growth of this collaboration is essential to broaden inspiration among Indonesians regarding the ideal living space vision, showcased through the creative works emerging from this partnership,” added Ching Khim Huat.
Regarding this year’s DAIKIN Designer Awards, there are six main categories. Beyond dividing participants into student and professional tiers, DAIKIN categorizes entries into completed projects utilizing DAIKIN Home Central AC products and conceptual design competitions, which are further evaluated across architectural and interior design disciplines.
Enhancing the event’s prestige, two prominent figures in architecture and interior design have joined the jury alongside DAIKIN’s representatives. Renowned architect Tan Tik Lam, celebrated for numerous national and international awards, will serve as a judge for the Finished Project category. Meanwhile, conceptual design evaluations will be led by Alex Bayusaputro, a leading figure in Indonesian interior design known for his array of international accolades.
Alongside these two industry leaders, DAIKIN has also invited Sarwendah. Recognized as a prominent local celebrity, she will represent the millennial perspective. In her role, Sarwendah will serve as a special judge for two categories: conceptual interior design for residential spaces and conceptual interior design for F&B commercial buildings curated by Sarwendah herself. Entries in these special categories will be developed based on the specific requirements of her personal properties.
In total, 16 winning titles will be awarded following direct jury assessments scheduled for late October. All awards will be presented during the DAIKIN Designer Awards 2023 Appreciation Gala, set to take place on November 24.
